Five New Trophies for Red Ribbon September

| Posted: 20 June 2012

By Jen Peddlesden Chestermere Country Fair Red Ribbon Coordinator

While some local Alberta fairs have folded due to lack of participation and other factors, that is not the case in Chestermere. Though the community has become more urbanized, the Chestermere Country Fair is embraced and supported by town and MD residents and maintained a lively Alberta prairie-town flavour. And what better shows local support and enthusiasm? Five local citizens stepping up to donate more trophies. Way back in 1990 Bill and Arlene Porter ( who at that time had the local Petro Canada station) provided a lovely rose bowl for the Grand Aggregate Family Prize. Then, Chris and Reid Huzzey donated a trophy for most points in Vegetables. The Ag Society followed with a trophy each for most points in Flowers, Wine, and Beer. Since that time that is all we have had. But this year there will be five new trophies to vie for–one each in these Sections; Baking, Photography, Pickles Sauces Eggs and Honey, Jams Jellies Preserves, and Handicrafts. Persons accumulating most points for entries in these Sections ( 3 points for 1st place, 2 points for 2nd place, 1 point for 3rd place) will be honoured with their names on these trophies and will receive a smaller trophy to take home. These and other prizes are awarded at a special ceremony, Saturday September 8th, 2:00pm in the Curling Rink, just before the popular Charity Pie Auction (this year in aid of STARS Air Ambulance). We’ll keep the donor names a surprise for a bit longer so when we unveil the new trophies closer to the Red Ribbon date you will find out which citizens have added to the competition for this year and the future. Want your name on one of these? Pick up your Chestermere Country Fair Red Ribbon Booklet at local outlets or the CRCA/Ag Society Office and check how many categories in which you could enter and possibly win.
