On Friday October 3, 2014, coaches, parents and supports of the Chestermere Chiefs Community Football organization filled West Creek Pub to help raise funds for the Chiefs Atom team.
As it sits right now, they only have an Atom team (which accommodates kids ages 7-10) which is something that organizers are hoping to change for next year. It is their goal to get enough interest and support to be able to organize an additional team for next year that would gear towards kids ages 11 & 12. At the level of the current Atom team, the focus is not on winning or player stats, but more on the actual learning of the sport, doing it right and having fun.
The organization received a grant worth $3000 and they were hoping to raise enough funds at the event at West Creek Pub. Although a final tally is not yet in, event organizers believe that they raised around $2000, with all of the money raised going towards the purchasing of new equipment.
Mo Speidel, Team Manager and organizer of the fundraising event says, “We want to send a huge thank you to those that sponsored the event. Lifepath Wellness, Lifepath Psych, Lakeshore Spa, Calgary Stampeders, Skyline Athletics, Malarkey Roofing, Boston Pizza, Buffalo Wild Wings. A special thank you to the team parents for all that they do and their support. And, of course, a huge thank you to West Creek Pub for allowing us to hold our event there and support our organization.”
