RCMP reports: Arson and Mischief

Strathmore – On Tuesday, December 31st, 2013, Strathmore RCMP Detachment members responded to a complaint of a suspicious male in the Town of Strathmore. This call quickly escalated to a male attempting to light a detached garage on fire, which became engulfed in flames. Officers attended and a 40 year old male from Strathmore, Alberta was taken into custody without further incident.

The detached garage became fully engulfed as the RCMP officers arrived on scene and took the suspect into custody. Strathmore Fire Department were dispatched, attended and put the fire out but the detached garage was completely destroyed, with a number of neighboring residences having damage to the outside of their structure from the heat of the garage fire.

The suspect and two RCMP officers were taken to the hospital for treatment of smoke inhalation. The suspect has been remanded for medical assessment and the two injured officers where released a few hours after arriving at the hospital.
