Thefts from Motor Vehicles – Springmere Area of Chestermere

On August 8, 2014 at around 4:00 a.m. the Chestermere RCMP received a report of two young males rummaging through unlocked vehicles parked along Springmere Drive in Chestermere, Alberta. RCMP members responded to and searched the area but could not locate these suspects. A short time later RCMP members observed a vehicle driving at excessive speeds and erratically leaving the Springmere area. The vehicle, a red truck, was driven to a residence in Hawkmere area where it was located a short time later. No occupants were noted inside this vehicle. However found within this vehicle were a number of GPS units believed to be stolen.

Inquiries at a near by residence identified a 16 year old male who was determined as a person responsible. This youth was arrested and charged with possession of stolen property obtained by crime. Another 15 year old male is being investigated as the second suspect. Both youths are residents of Chestermere.

Persons residing in the Springmere and Oakmere areas of Chestermere are encouraged to check their vehicles for missing contents. All thefts should be reported to the Chestermere RCMP as some recovered items are yet unclaimed. Residents are reminded and encouraged to lock their unattended vehicles and to remove items of value to deter these type of crimes of opportunity.
