Interested in skating? Want to improve your skating skills? Check out Ice Edge Skating Club

Although Chestermere is a city that loves its hockey, did you know that there is also a figure skating club here? No… well, lots of people don’t. The Ice Edge Skating Club operates out of the Chestermere Regional Recreation Centre and has some great programming for all ages.
Whether you are a first time skater, a hockey player looking to improve your skating skills or an adult wanting to give skating a try – Ice Edge Skating Club has a program for you.
Best Health Magazine reported that ice-skating is easy on the joints because it is low impact, and improves balance and coordination. “You use a lot of small stabilizer muscles that don’t get a workout in day-to-day life, in particular those around your hips, knees and ankles,” says Kristin Kunze, a certified skating coach and coordinator of the skating programs in the faculty of kinesiology at the University of Calgary. “Strengthening those small muscles helps you in other activities, like running, skiing and yoga.” You’re also toning larger muscles in your legs, butt and core as you propel yourself on the ice. “You never see a skater with a flabby bum!” Kunze notes.
Ice Edge Skating Club is offering summer camps for skaters twelve years and younger in August that will be the perfect chance to check out their programs. Their beginner Can Skate program has six levels and once completed, students move into the Jr. Star Skate and then the Sr. Star Skate. The summer camps are only at the Can Skate and Jr. Star Skate level.
The Can Skate summer camp program gives skaters 45 minutes of ice time twice a day and the rest of their day is spent doing crafts and activities. The cost of this camp is $290 for one week or $540 for two weeks. The Jr. Star Skate camp gives skaters 1 hour and 15 minutes of ice time twice a day, 1 hour of off ice sessions with the remainder of their day being spent with other activities. The cost of the Jr. Star camp is $340 for one week and $600 for two weeks. To participate in these camps, you must have a current CRCA membership and also pay a $35 Skate Canada membership fee.
