It was a beautiful sunny day for a banner Red Ribbon Competition and Chestermere Country Fair. There were so many entries in the Red Ribbon that judging went into the wee hours of Saturday morning–but everyone was home in time to get enough sleep to come out and enjoy a wonderful parade organized by Synergy.
It was amazing to hear the band music wafting across the lake, and as one got closer to the grounds, the aroma of pancakes and sausages– a treat for all the senses. Although everyone was a winner by attending the Fair and Red Ribbon there were some who took home trophies, money and other prizes.
1. Family Grand Aggregate (most overall points for entries) – Jeff, Jamie-Ann and all the Kearns Family
2. Quilt Trophy – a tie Kim Williams and Susan Jankowski
3. Veggie Trophy – Jennifer Zambory;
4. Flower Trophy – Jamie Ann Kearns
5. Photography – Bill Peddlesden
6. Baking – Laura Frank
7. Jams Jellies Preserves – Jennifer Zambory
8. Pickles Sauces Eggs – Bryon Callaghan
9. Wine – Dale and Kathy Senger
10. Handicrafts – Lesleyanne Banks
11. Art – Shelby Rawlusyk
12. School with Most entries – St Gabriel the Archangel School
13. Children with Most Entries – The Kearn family children who get two weeks of sailing lessons with Calgary Yacht Club at Chestermere.
14. My First Quilt – Viewers Choice – Terry Lewis
15. Craig Lawrence Memorial LEGO (City of Chestermere sponsorship) – 1st Nicholas Lavoie, 2nd Graeme Ashworth, 3rd Laura Kearns.
16. Jane Carlyle Memorial Quilt Competition – 1st Carole Engel with Feathered Star pattern quilt.
Saturday was also the day for the STARS Olde Fashioned Pie Auction.
Thanks to Bill at Elevate Auction, and many eager bidders the Red Ribbon will be sending a cheque for $2320 to STARS this year. And this puts Red Ribbon over the top for having raised $10 000 over these years of pie auctions.
Zucchini Car Races were popular as usual, and some of those little veggie mobiles WERE hot! The Faucher family ran the races smoothly and efficiently, and winners were 1st U10 Riley Sweeney, 2nd James Kearn, and third Will Howse. In the Over 10s, first to Rachel Sweeney, 2nd to Chaz Peddlesden, and third to Christine Le Blanc.
Families were lined up until nearly 5pm picking up money, gift cards, and ribbons. None of this would have been possible without the many donors and sponsors who provided $7100 in prizes. Please go to the Chestermere Country Fair Facebook page to see whose generosity provided these rewards for the expertise and hard work on Red Ribbon entries. https://www.facebook.com/ChestermereCountryFair/?fref=ts
Appreciation goes out to Chestermere Emergency Services, who made pies for the STARS Auction and also to the Firefighters who came to judge LEGO competition and provide special bags from Conoco Phillips for each entrant on Saturday. None of this could be accomplished without the hundred or so volunteers who came out Wednesday, Thursday, Friday and then Saturday to make pies, set up, take in entries, judge all those entries and help with judging and …clean-up!
If you would like to be part of this exciting event next year, let Red Ribbon know via the FB page. Also, send in YOUR best Fair photos–there is quite a nice gallery growing already–see you next year September 9th 2017.
