Councillors Davies, Watson and Hutchison not seeking re-election

All three Councillors release statements Sept. 15

Three more of Chestermere’s sitting councillors have announced they will not be seeking re-election in this October’s municipal election.
Councillor Heather Davies, Councillor Patrick Watson, and Councillor Stu Hutchison all released statements announcing their decisions on the city website Sept. 15.
Davis is retiring after serving five terms on council.
“Serving the residents of Chestermere has been an honour and a privilege,” she said.
“The demand of this community service position has become a huge commitment and after the 2013 election I decided then, this would be my last term,” said Davies.
As she leaves council, she plans to spend more time with family, friends, and travelling.
She does plan to continue being involved in community in other ways and even plans on attending the occasional Council Meeting.
“It will be different sitting on the other side of the bench,” she said.
Another long-time Councillor, Stu Hutchison is retiring after eight terms.
“I leave satisfied with the progress of all Councils I have been on,” he said.
He leaves grateful for all the support he has received from the community over the course of his career on council.
He said that he has always tried to vote and make decisions with the interest of all residents “first and foremost.”
He also thanks city staff for all the hard work they put into making Chestermere the beautiful place to live that it is.
“Our beautiful Parks, our Public flower beds, friendly, helpful Administration all contribute to making this a great place to call home,” said Hutchison.
Councillor Patrick Watson, is leaving after one term on council.
“I feel extremely blessed to have spent the past four years gaining knowledge and insight around our community and its operations,” he said.
Watson said that he will miss working with his council colleagues and city staff when the term ends with the election in October.
“I’ll miss being an ongoing witness to the work our Development and Infrastructure folks are committed to.
“They are responsible for making Chestermere a safe and beautiful place to live and they do a great job of it,” said Watson.
At the writing of this story, Councillor Jennifer Massig is the only member of council not to announce her election intentions. No other incumbent Councillor is seeking re-election.
