Adults and kids, get out your LEGO blocks and start planning your emergency vehicle for the Craig Lawrence Memorial LEGO Competition at the Chestermere Ag Society Red Ribbon coming up in September 2017 on the CRCA grounds. This is the 9th year for this LEGO event, having been started in 2008 after the tragic death of Craig Lawrence, Town Planner and volunteer fire fighter here in Chestermere. Craig was an avid LEGO model builder and this event celebrates him and a passion shared by many young and old Chestermereians. Entries are to come in Friday September 8th to the Curling Rink, CRCA building, 11am to 6pm ( NO LATE ENTRIES). Pick up a Red Ribbon Booklet ( library, City Hall, Farmer’s Market) or go online to the Country Fair FB page for the online booket to get details on size and rules. https://www.facebook.com/ChestermereCountryFair/ Thanks to the City of Chestermere for continuing to provide $100 in prize money ( 1st $50 2nd $30 and 3rd $20) . The prizes are awarded at the Fall Supper following the closing of the Fair on September 9th. Judging is done by the firefighters at Chestermere Fire Hall.
And for the quilters who want to show off their finest, the Jane Carlyle Memorial Quilt Competition is now BEST OF SHOW for OVERALL best quilt in the 2017 Red Ribbon Competition Classes # 701-712. This is the 8th year for this popular prize. The award total for this competition has been increased by her husband and children the McDonald Family, Jim, Heather and Katherine, to $225 ( 1st $100 2nd $75 and 3rd $50) and will be awarded at the Fall Supper. The Carlyle’s were pioneers here in Chestermere. Jane’s grandfather, M.D. Carlyle moved here from Chesterville Ontario in 1904, and her father Robert F Carlyle took over the farming operation in 1941 raising a purebred Jersey dairy herd, farming grain, silver foxes and later cattle. Jane passed away in 2009. If you are a quilter and would like to enter, get a Red Ribbon Booklet or find the Red Ribbon Booklet on FB Chestermere Country Fair.
