Families look for a fun way to kick off the Halloween season will have the opportunity to stroll through the pumpkin patch Oct. 21.
This will be the Lion’s eleventh annual pumpkin patch fundraiser that see’s families come down to pick their pumpkins from the pumpkin patch.
New this year, the pumpkin patch has moved to the field at the Chestermere Regional Recreation Centre.
“Which I think is going to be great,” said event organizer and Lions Club member Dawn Seguin.
The move comes now that the Lions Club is leasing space from the CRCA at the recreation centre.
“We’ve brought the Lions Club right back to Chestermere,” said Seguin.
In past years the fundraiser was held at the Mountain View Cemetery.
“They were very good to us there,” she said, “we just thought we should bring it back.
While the views at the old location were very picturesque, she said that the field at Mountain View Cemetery was a little harder for people to find.
“It was a little out of the way for people,” she said.
“It was sort of out of sight,” said Seguin.
This year she is expecting a bigger turnout since the patch will be right in the centre of town.
“People will see that there’s something going on,” she said.
For Lions club members who all volunteer at the pumpkin patch, the event really is a fun fundraiser.
In addition to the pumpkins, other activities will include a story time tent and a colouring table.
“The library ladies dress up as witches and they read stories to the kids,” said Seguin.
There will also be hot dogs and juice or hot chocolate for the kids and coffee for the adults all of which is provided free.
Each pumpkin costs $10 with the all the funds going to the club. The event starts at 10 a.m. and goes until all the pumpkins are gone or 1 p.m. said Seguin.
The money raised at the Pumpkin patch are added to the Lion’s club funds. The club keeps the money in the community, spending it in support of community groups and events.
The Chestermere Lions Club has in the past donated to the food bank, recreation centre and other community projects.
They also provide free pancake breakfasts at community events.
Any pumpkins left at the end of the event will be donated to the Chestermere Regional Food Bank.
