Two dead in TransCanada Highway crash

Collision leads to overnight closure Oct. 18

Two men are dad after a head on collision on Highway 1 between Chestermere and Calgary Oct. 18.
Emergency crews responded to the collision in the west bound lanes of the highway near Rainbow Road at just before 11 p.m.
The drivers and lone occupants of both vehicles, a 27-year-old man from Chestermere and a 30-year-old man from Calgary were pronounced deceased on scene by EMS.
The west bound lanes of the highway were closed until about 5 a.m. while an RCMP collision analyst investigated the scene.
Strathmore RCMP said that the preliminary investigation shows that one of the vehicles was travelling east in the westbound lanes causing the head on collision.
Police continue to investigate the collision.
RCMP said that the names of the deceased will not be released.
