Game Show – A Stage West Review

Posted on 27 February 2013

The new comedy/drama that’s currently playing at Stage West is billed as the Comedy YOU Play and whiles it’s true, there is so much more too it! The premise of the play is we get to see the “behind the scenes” activity that takes place during the recording of a successful TV game show called, wait for it, Game Show. The behind the scenes antics are a huge highlight of the show and the scheming, manipulation and banter are truly entertaining. Most of the scheming involves the career of the host of the game show, Richard Karn who will be [...]

Two Hit Wonders – A StageWest Review

Posted on 01 December 2012

You’re likely familiar with the term “One Hit Wonders”. You know, those famous songs that were the single hit for some group that seemed poised to take off. Only to then disappear into the night with only the legacy of a single well known hit left behind them. Well “Two Hit Wonders”, the latest presentation at Stage West, is all centered on the next level of groups who managed to repeat their earlier success with a second success. Or in the case of some of the hits, the song itself became a hit by two or more different artists at [...]

Aspen Crossing Perils of Pauline

Posted on 16 October 2012

Aspen Crossing Theatre kicked off its first show of the dinner theatre season with Gail Whiteford’s “The Perils of Pauline”, the ‘stage’ inside an authentic 1887 Pullman train car in Mossleigh, AB. Set in 1935, this murder mystery comedy takes place as a movie crew arrives to film one of the first talking pictures, “The Perils of Pauline series.” Along with a film crew and actors, the mayor’s wife Mrs. Harold Lee, played by Gail Whiteford, hilariously tries to gain a small role by moving the town’s money around to fund the production. But, the real heart of the story [...]

Sexy Laundry

Stage west Sex for Dummies

Posted on 29 September 2012

Last weekend I was once again privileged to be invited by the Anchor to view and review Stage West’s latest production. This time my husband accompanied me, and once we were seated he started looking through the program. I asked him what the play was about and he said: “It’s about us” and then he grinned. Concerned, I grabbed my own program and read an excerpt from the Hamilton Spectator review: “You’ll probably see yourself.” I was starting to feel a little concerned Written by Michele Riml, Sexy Laundry is Stage West’s one hundred and seventy-fifth production, which is a [...]

Anne of Green Gables, sheer delight

Rosebud's Anne of Green Gables, the apology scene

Posted on 12 July 2012

ROSEBUD – If you’ve never been to Rosebud, you are missing out. Guys, if you want to make up some brownie points, Rosebud is the place to do it. Not quite an hour’s drive east from Chestermere lays a small hamlet where only about 100 people live and work. It is a gem and rather than me copy and pasting some of the media information I was given, I think it would be best to hear it first hand from someone who’s been there. You know how it goes, I tell two friends and then they tell two friends and [...]

Rosebud, Alberta (June 11, 2012) – Rosebud Theatre’s summer production of the musical Anne of Green Gables has opened to rave reviews and tickets are selling like ice cream! The popularity of the show has everything to do with the exceptional performances of its cast. Summer in The City – A Musical Revue

Summer in the City revue

Posted on 25 April 2012

This was our first visit to Stage West, and we enjoyed it so much, we definitely plan on returning. With no previous benchmark for us, we had no expectations and were quite ecstatic to experience the Stage West performance. And what a great experience it was. First, it started with a wonderful dinner, then to follow it up with a wonderful musical revue, it made for a fantastic evening. We weren’t entirely sure what we were getting into attending a musical revue, but when the ensemble cast broke into The Lovin’ Spoonful’s hit song Summer in the City we knew [...]

$38,000 for a Friendly Face: A Review

Jesse Anderson offers Jeany Van Meltebeke some hair and makeup tips during Kristen Shepherd's "$38,000 for a Friendly Face.

Posted on 27 March 2012

This past weekend I enjoyed another trip out to Rosebud to take in the first offering of their 2012 season, Kristen Shepherd’s “$38,000 for a Friendly Face.” I had heard that the play was a comedy about a director of a funeral home who didn’t know how to create an appropriate celebration of life for a woman that nobody liked. I wasn’t exactly sure how “comedy” and “funeral home” could end up in the same sentence, but I went in with an open mind. As predicted, the story was a little bit crazy. The play begins in a small-town funeral home, [...]
