Volunteer advocates along with organizer extraordinaire Jocelyn Osachuk of the Strathmore RCMP Victims Services Society (SRVSS) were barbequing up a storm of hot dogs in the Safeway Parking lot this past Saturday in hopes of raising both money and especially awareness for their program. This unit serves not only Strathmore but also encompasses all areas to Carseland, Gleichen and Chestermere. M&M Meat Shops Holds Annual Charity Barbeque

This past Saturday, May 11, was a big day for the local Chestermere M&M Meat’s Shop, as well as M&M’s across Canada. It makes the annual M&M Meat Shops Charity Barbeque Day, where for three dollars, anyone can get a burger or a hot dog, and all the proceeds go to the Crohn’s and Colitis Foundation of Canada (CCFC). The even ran all day long, from 10 in the morning till 4 in the afternoon. A power point presentation introducing Clint Marlachuk brought tears to his eyes as he watched Kiprusoff, Macdonald and Irving saving goal after goal. “Those are my kids” he cried in a heartfelt moment, a reminder that his efforts as Flames Goaltending Coach have paid off. Marlachuk along with his wife Joanie came to the High School on Tuesday, May 7 to give a presentation to the grade 10 students for the National Child and Youth Mental Health Day. Lil’ Patch Of Heaven Gives Back

A helpful and hopeful business decided to give back to the Chestermere community in a big way over the past Spring Fair weekend. Lil’ Patch Of Heaven is a horse ranch that often brings their animals to the Chestermere Spring Fair to offer horse rides to kids. Chestermere RCMP Detachment Welcomes A New Auxiliary Constable

During the afternoon of May 8, 2013 a swearing in ceremony at the Chestermere RCMP Detachment was conducted welcoming Jenn WARD as the most recent Chestermere RCMP Auxiliary Constable. This is a special year with the RCMP auxiliary constable program celebrating its 50th year in existence. In 1963, the RCMP began its Auxiliary Constable Program to enhance community policing and crime prevention initiatives. Today, there are more than 2,000 Auxiliary Constables nation-wide. Some accompany regular members on patrol or assist with special events and crowd control, while others give safety presentations, fingerprint children, co-ordinate neighborhood watches, or perform bike patrols. Chestermere Regional Food Bank

September 2007 The Chestermere Regional Food Bank was launched by The Lion’s Club and other Community Members. Since that time the demands on the food bank grow each year. In 2012 over 130 families were supported by the food Bank. Chestermere is a community that is often viewed as one that does not have social and economic. Unfortunately like all communities Chestermere is not sheltered by the needs in changing family design, job loss and other factors that lead families / individuals to rely on our Food Bank. Goodbye Dan and Good Luck!

It was poignant moment last week saying goodbye to someone who has been a good friend to the Chestermere Red Ribbon Competition and the Chestermere Historical Foundation.  Dan Skidmore, EPCOR Site Manager here in Chestermere for about 10 years will be leaving to take on a new EPCOR manager position in Sooke and French Creek, BC and living in Victoria.   The Chestermere Red Ribbon competition has received EPCOR grants for the past four years, and in 2012-2013, through Dan’s support, EPCOR provided $10 000 for the historical mural project for Town of Chestermere Lift Station #10 to be unveiled on [...]

The Chestermere Spring Fair is always full of fantastic and fun things for the whole family to participate in an enjoy, and this year it’s launched a new walking program the organizers hope the community will love. Chestermere Walks was an idea in the head of organizer Vicki Klinger that she had a great desire to bring to life. The town of Chestermere has seen a much anticipated addition to its ever-growing number of businesses this past month. In the latest section of land development west of Highway 1A, where several other new businesses and a new gym have cropped up, a branch of the franchise Dairy Queen has opened in town. The restaurant has been a long time coming. Owners Salina Bandali, her husband Sujad Bandali, brother-in-law Abdul Merchant, and sister Razia Merchant have been trying to open a branch in Chestermere for almost 10 years. Country Connections Spring Festival a Big Hit

The place to be for fun and action was the annual spring festival held at the Rec Centre this past Saturday. Mother Nature did her best to cooperate making the event a thoroughly enjoyable time. Those who managed to sneak away from yard duties among other things were rewarded by a warm and lively time. The launch of the walking program gave citizens an opportunity to find out about the new programs offered by the Thrive on Wellness initiative to promote healthy connections within community.
