On April 19, 2012 during the late afternoon the Chestermere RCMP with assistance from the Calgary Police Service Drug Section and the Alberta along with the Calgary Combined Forces Special Enforcement Unit arrested three suspects who were being investigated after a complaint of trafficking of MDMA (ecstasy). The investigation began on April 15, 2012 with a complaint of a Calgary youth requiring short term hospitalization after consuming a form of ecstasy purchased from a Chestermere youth in Chestermere. This was our first visit to Stage West, and we enjoyed it so much, we definitely plan on returning. With no previous benchmark for us, we had no expectations and were quite ecstatic to experience the Stage West performance. And what a great experience it was. First, it started with a wonderful dinner, then to follow it up with a wonderful musical revue, it made for a fantastic evening. Team Canada Willbees have just returned from their 2012 European Hockey adventure in which they played 9 games and visited 8 countries. This is the fourth tour organized by Coach Marian Gmitter: two for his Men’s Hockey Club “The Wannabees” and this was the 2nd time for the junior club called the Willbees. The pickup team from Chestermere Atom, Novice and Pee Wee aged players were challenged by some of the major clubs in Europe and ended up with a 50/50 record. The Chestermere Red Ribbon and Chestermere Country Fair are presenting a FREE full day workshop at the Chestermere Rec Centre to give you a chance to dabble in and learn about traditional creative home skills that are being lost. On April 10th the Chestermere Historical Foundation (CHF) held its first Annual General Meeting and was cheered to hear the news that the Great Canadian Barn Dance to be held in Chestermere April 21st has been a sell out. This is good news as this event is earning matching funds for CHF to use against the $3000 matching grant awarded from the Chestermere Conrich Regional Recreation Board. CHESTERMERE – With the election just around the corner and now being decision time for Chestermere – Rocky View voters, the YELL all candidates forum saw a packed house on Friday, April 13. By shortly after 7 p.m., there were few empty seats to be found, so three of the four candidates from the riding took to the stage. The newly formed Chestermere Chamber of Commerce (CCC) held its inaugural event, a Wine and Cheese, this past Friday at Chestermere’s town hall. The event was well attended and an opportunity to network with other businesses, developers, organizations, along with town officials and employees. The event was also a time to meet the CCC board, learn more about the CCC and sign up as a member, which many businesses did. The CCC would like to thank the event sponsors. BADMINTON Nineteen of our athletes competed in the Rocky View Divisional Badminton Championship this past weekend, in Cochrane. The team had the best results in recent memory. Earning gold medals were Adeline Le and Shamus Moore in single’s events. As well, Paul Hui and Amandeep Sandher were champions in the doubles. Silver medallists included Brad Avery, Bryan Tran, Keith Davis and Mike Bui. Finishing 4th was Jagraj Sandher. A fantastic result for the 2012 team. Chestermere’s 5th Annual Parade of Garage Sales will take place on May 5th from 9am to 3pm. Last year we had over 70 homes registered and over 100 separate sales. This year is bound to be even bigger and better. CHESTERMERE – The Chestermere Health Centre is one step closer to a reality, as the officially groundbreaking ceremony for the facility was held on March 29. A group of around 70 people attended the event at the future site of the health centre, which is located at 288 Kinniburgh Blvd. in Chestermere. The ceremony began at 10 a.m. with Akesh Aheer singing O Canada, and developer Bob Gaidhar of Prime Funds welcoming the crowd to the event.
