CHESTERMERE – On Dec. 20 at around 9:30 p.m., two males in their late 30′s entered the Sobey’s Liquore Store in Chestermere. A staff member recognized one of the males as being in the store a week earlier on Dec. 13, as he was captured on video surveillance, stealing numerous bottles of liquor. Both males were in the store for approximately 10 to 15 minutes, and were again captured on video while inside. CHESTERMERE – After hearing from some community members about counterfeit currency making it’s way around Chestermere, and because the new Canadian currency is on it’s way, the local RCMP decided that it would be important to let the community know how to get informed about handling currency. To provide this information, particularly about the new polymer bills, the local detachment has pamphlets on hand that provide all of they key things to know. CHESTERMERE – In June of this year, the Chestermere RCMP detachment welcomed Cst. Kendra Kohalmi to the team. The 23-year-old, who is from Manitoba originally, accepted her first posting in Chestermere after completing her training at the end of May. CHESTERMERE – The Chestermere RCMP is welcoming another new member to the detachment, as Constable Trevor Edelman joined the team last month. Edelman graduated from the RCMP depot in Regina on Sept. 19, and began work in Chestermere on Sept. 22. The 28-year-old was born in Calgary but spent some time living in Saskatchewan, where he graduated high school. CHESTERMERE – When a search and rescue effort turned into a victim recovery situation last month on Chestermere Lake, the local RCMP were left scrambling to find a way to conduct operations in the right manner. Luckily, local resident John Kittler approached them and offered them the use of his lakefront property on East Chestermere Drive. It was from there that the RCMP were able to launch boats, store equipment, and generally conduct their operations out of the public eye while searching for Richis Bondo Katumbay of Calgary, who drowned on Aug. 6. Just after 8:00 PM last night, September 25th, 2011 the Chestermere RCMP Detachment received calls from the public reporting two or three shots fired in a parking lot for several local businesses. RCMP members immediately attended the scene and discovered two male individuals, who had suffered physical assault injuries but not gunshot wounds. These two individual were attended by EMS personnel and then transported to hospital via ground ambulance. On August 15, 2011, at approximately 10:22pm, the Calgary Police Service requested assistance from Chestermere RCMP Detachment. A shooting had taken place in Calgary and the suspect was being followed by the Calgary Police Service HAWCS helicopter. The suspect attended a residence in Chestermere, where officers from Calgary Police Service, Chestermere RCMP and Strathmore RCMP staged outside. The suspect was taken into custody without incident, and was turned over to Calgary Police. Comedian and singer Andrew Johns is performing this Friday, Aug 19 from 7 to 11 p.m. at Lakeside Golf Club. On June 12, 2011 select members of the Chestermere RCMP Detachment attended a “Top Cop” fitness competition in Drumheller, Alberta. Seven members of the local detachment put their fitness levels to the test proving they had what it takes to be a “Top Cop”.
