LANGDON – The Wildfire Saloon and Chop House has been in Langdon for many years and even if they were pretty much the only game in town, the owners saw a need to renovate, upgrade and change it up and they think the customers are going to love the changes. The place has gone through some significant renovations in the last little while including a new management team: and this team is running like a precision time piece so says Michelle Stockert, Manager of the Wildfire Saloon. I just love coming to work every day, it’s fun when everyone is [...]

CHESTERMERE – The Rocky View County is currently looking for all ranks of experienced and non-experienced volunteer firefighters to supplement fire services and bolster responses in the community. The county is looking for 18 to 20 positions overall to volunteer in Langdon, Madden and Irricana. Now this may seem like a huge number, but did you know that 70% of firefighters in the province are volunteer firefighters. And did you know that most every firefighter in Chestermere began their career as a volunteer firefighter. Currently there are 23 members in the Langdon Fire Department. Deputy Fire Chief Perry Prete said [...]

LANGDON – Having the speed limits in your neighbourhood increase rather than decrease is an unusual move however, on February 12, 2013, Rocky View County Council reviewed the Langdon speed assessment report and directed administration to increase the speed limits of 3 of the roads in the Hamlet of Langdon. Residents of the tiny hamlet voiced their opinion and Rocky View County listened. The first of the 3 changes is the 60 kilometre per hour speed limit zone on Township Road 234 (Glenmore Trail) from Centre Street/Highway 797. That stretch of roadway will be extended to 200 metres east of [...]

LANGDON – The Grand Opening of the Mountain View Credit Union is the first bank in Langdon. It opened its doors on Saturday October 20th with a celebration of fiddlers, smokies and refreshments. The weather could have been better however as there was a mild blizzard occurring outside but it didn’t seem to deter a number of people from attending the opening. The warmth and friendliness of the branch employees made everyone who came in forget what was on the outside. Every age of customer was entertained; the Keister Family Fiddlers played some songs for the crowd and for the [...]

LANGDON – What’s with the kids in Langdon? No kidding, these kids are eager to get back to school. That never happened when I was a kid. Well there is a good reason they’re excited; there is a brand new school that just opened August 23rd. As part of the Redford government’s commitment to education Sarah Thompson School in Langdon is one of 15 schools to be opened in 2012-13 in seven Alberta communities. “Albertans have told us that education is a priority, schools such as Sarah Thompson Elementary will allow our teachers to provide excellent learning opportunities to our [...]

LANGDON – Tammy phones and says, “Oh, I know this is last minute” (she has a lot on her mind today obviously), “but the Karma Kids are presenting a play tonight and would love to have you stop by the dojo to see our play”. “Dojo you say? I’ll be there”. (I’m curious, I don’t know what a dojo is). She gives me the address in Langdon. Wikipedia defines: a dojo (道場 dōjō?) is a Japanese term which literally means “place of the way”. Initially, dōjōs were an adjunct to temples. The term can refer to a formal training place for any of the Japanese do arts but typically it [...]

LANGDON – Longtime resident of Langdon, Kathy Hadley, underwent aggressive chemotherapy and radiation treatments for breast cancer back in 2008 and 2009. Unfortunately, the cancer has metastasized into her bones, lymph nodes and lungs. With a loving husband and ten children, five of them biological and five that are either adopted or are under joint-guardianship, Hadley has a lot to live for. With determination to find the best possible options available for her, Kathy actively researched her choices and found a natural alternative therapy. She began the therapy at Grassroots Naturopathic Clinic back in November, and said that it has [...]

LANGDON – For those who have no problem getting up in front of a crowd and giving their best performance, or perhaps even those that do, there is a Langdon-based theatre group that is always looking for new members. The Langdon Theatre Association is a non-profit program for performers from ages six to 17-years-old. They run four different classes for various age groups, and this year they are celebrating their 10th anniversary. The program typically runs from the beginning of October to the end of April, with the groups meeting once per week. The group was formed back in 2002 [...]

LANGDON — Students from several Rocky View Schools gathered at Langdon School on June 8 to listen to and discuss ways of making the world a better place. The “Langdon Peace Summit” started around 10 a.m. with a presentation by keynote speaker Mike Ter Kuile, a Calgary-based detective and long-serving member of the Canadian Armed Forces. Ter Kuile, who said he’s worn a uniform for 46 years, spoke about his experiences keeping peace overseas and closer to home. “Police officers and soldiers are essentially peace makers,” he told the students. “We’re there to keep the peace and to separate the [...]
