Chestermere – We certainly have a lot to be proud of in Chestermere and amongst us is a very talented artist by the name of Ellen Lorne. Ellen has been putting her talent to brush and canvas since she retired some 10 to 12 years ago. Several years ago she went to The Alberta College of Art which was known as SAIT back then. She raised her children and hadn’t touched a paint brush until the kids were on their own and she retired. Ellen is a member of the Chestermere Art Guild and the Federation of Canadian Artists and [...]

CHESTERMERE- Two artists from the community are hoping that local art-lovers will join them in celebrating the opening of the “Lost and Found” exhibit at the Resolution Gallery in Calgary this month. Tommy Fleger and Lesley Bergen of Chestermere, along with fellow artist Kellie Krueger of East Coulee near Drumheller, will all have their work displayed for most of the month in what is being called an eco/folk art exhibit. The show will feature Fleger’s reupholstered chairs, Bergen’s hooked rugs, and Krueger’s mosaic glass windows. Each of them has a unique process for creating their work, but the common thread [...]

The MPP room was filled with art of all different styles and mediums from watercolours, acrylics, oils, pen and ink and porcelain paintings, to rug hooking, upholstered art chairs and glass art. Art guild member Lesley Bergen estimated around 200 people attended the show, and said the group did very well in sales. “We are very happy to put shows like the Art Show and Sale on for the community,” Bergen said. “It is [...]

CHESTERMERE — With a diverse portfolio ranging from pen-and-ink to painted portraits, YouTube videos and rug hookings, local artist Lesley Bergen may be best-described as Chestermere’s renaissance woman. Bergen, who cites Leonardo da Vinci as one of her biggest inspirations, clearly has more in common with the legendary Italian artist than their similar aversions to eating meat. “Leonardo da Vinci was such a renaissance man,” Bergen said. “He tried everything from inventing to painting. There are a lot of things that I admire about him as an artist.” Bergen has sold artwork for over a quarter century. She originally started [...]
