Goodbye Dan and Good Luck!

It was poignant moment last week saying goodbye to someone who has been a good friend to the Chestermere Red Ribbon Competition and the Chestermere Historical Foundation.  Dan Skidmore, EPCOR Site Manager here in Chestermere for about 10 years will be leaving to take on a new EPCOR manager position in Sooke and French Creek, BC and living in Victoria.   The Chestermere Red Ribbon competition has received EPCOR grants for the past four years, and in 2012-2013, through Dan’s support, EPCOR provided $10 000 for the historical mural project for Town of Chestermere Lift Station #10 to be unveiled on [...]

Behind the Scenes of a Great Red Ribbon Competition

As most volunteers know events do not just happen they require a great deal of preparation. Planning for the 2013 24th annual Chestermere Country Fair and Red Ribbon Competition started last year in November when new ideas and suggestions were gathered at the Red Ribbon and Country Fair wind up meetings. Just like our provincial government we have been busy having “conversations” but unlike them both sides get to talk and we are progressing towards our goal. By late January under the superb direction of Jennifer Peddlesden Red Ribbon preparation was under way. Jennifer even came up with a new [...]

One of the best things about volunteering for the Country Fair Red Ribbon is the camaraderie and also the great pot luck dinners for the wind up meeting. (Take note, Red Ribbon can always use new volunteers!). The 2012 Red Ribbon had lots of ups (and a few downs) but overall the fun level with great weather and attendance was and the quality of entries was noted by the judges to be top notch. New this year was the certificate for most entries for a school which went to Our Lady of Wisdom. One hundred and nine adults entered, 95 [...]
