A power point presentation introducing Clint Marlachuk brought tears to his eyes as he watched Kiprusoff, Macdonald and Irving saving goal after goal. “Those are my kids” he cried in a heartfelt moment, a reminder that his efforts as Flames Goaltending Coach have paid off. Marlachuk along with his wife Joanie came to the High School on Tuesday, May 7 to give a presentation to the grade 10 students for the National Child and Youth Mental Health Day. CHESTERMERE – Talk about being inspired by someone smaller than you; smaller in size that is. What an incredible weekend for our basketball teams. We won two zone banners, finished second in another and both senior teams qualified for provincials. Our JV teams are done for the year and both senior teams are off to the 3A Championships this weekend. Check our web-site or the ASAA web-site for results and live streaming of games. Our students are off school for the entire week, but still have their final league basketball games. On Tuesday the girls host Bert Church and on Wednesday the boys travel to Airdrie to play the Chargers. After that most teams have some time off and will rest to be healthy for the playoffs. CURLING Curling at Chestermere High has reached its busiest time of the year. This past week athletes were able to compete in the Rocky View Divisional Bonspiel, and, this weekend, one of our teams is able to continue to the South Central Zones play downs. Practices for Curlers started in mid-November. Four teams were returning from previous years; in addition there were 10 athletes joining us for the first time. Students have attended practice each week under the guidance of the coaching team of Wolfgang Janke, Margie Bremer and Marianne Sutcliffe. CURLING The curling team has been working hard the past few months to prepare for their season. The Rocky View Championship will be held, in Airdrie, on January 31 and February 1. CHESTERMERE – It seems it’s never too early to start learning a new skill and this looks like the philosophy for the children enrolled in the Little Acorns Fine Arts Pre-School program. November is music month at the Little Acorns Fine Arts Pre-School and some students from the Chestermere High School music class brought their instruments and show the preschoolers about their melodic implements. Emily Potts, a veteran of the Raiders team, is from Calgary, Alberta. She attends Grade 12 at Chestermere High School. Emily started skating lessons at the young age of 3. Quickly becoming bored with figure skating, she decided she wanted to play hockey like her older cousin, Kristy. At the age of 5 Emily started playing hockey with the Crowfoot Girls Novice team. Shortly after, she played Tier 1 boys hockey in Cochrane from Novice to Pee Wee. She then played for the Rocky Mountain Raiders AAA Bantam Female team for 2 years.
