CHESTERMERE – On Saturday Feb. 11 around 2:15 p.m., a cloud of thick black smoke could be seen rising into sky just east of Chestermere. Rocky View Fire Department, along with members of both the Chestermere and Strathmore RCMP, responded to a report of a structural fire at a property on Range Road 281. A large detached shop was found fully engulfed in flames when crews arrived, but it was extinguished before it could spread to the nearby home. CHESTERMERE– Three people from the Calgary area watched their friend’s “last bubble” during a fatal boating accident on Chestermere Lake Aug. 6. Richis Bondo Katumbay, 33, was being towed by a five-metre motorboat when the tube flipped and he plunged underwater. The Congo native was not wearing a life-jacket at the time, and friends later said he couldn’t swim and didn’t even enjoy being in the water. For the past number of months the Chestermere RCMP Detachment have attended to a number of residential break and enters in Chestermere. Suspect(s) have forced their way into unoccupied homes during day time hours. Points of entry vary and include forcing open back doors, front doors and basement windows. Items such as jewelry, cameras, electronic games, computers and televisions have been stolen. In some cases residential alarms were activated and the culprits fled prior to police attendance. CHESTERMERE– Law enforcement officials have seized over 1074 marijuana plants, in what’s been Chestermere’s largest reported grow-op this year. A home in Parkmere Green was raided on July-14 by members of the local RCMP detachment as well as officers from the Calgary Police Service and RCMP joint task force known as the “Green Team South.” The search revealed a three-stage soil-based hydroponic grow op in the basement. The plants have an estimated street value exceeding $1.3-million.

During the late morning hours of July 14, 2011 members of the Chestermere RCMP with support from the joint forces Calgary Police Service – RCMP “Green Team South” executed a Controlled Drugs and Substances Act search warrant at a residence located in the Parkmere Green area of Chestermere.
