Chestermere – The mood was FUN (as in FUNdraising) but there were some people who fought back the tears during the emotional ceremony at the Chestermere Recreation Centre Friday night at 7:00PM. CHESTERMERE– If the 2011 Chestermere Relay For Life campaign is any indication then everyone knows someone who’s been affected by cancer. For the second year, community members came together to share their stories and support each other’s battles during the 12-hour walk on June 24. The town also raised another $100,000 to fund cancer research, which puts the event’s two-year total around $210,000. Event co-organizer Colleen Corbiell said it was another huge success and she was happy to get great support from the community, once again. “It feels amazing to think that a town the size of Chestermere has contributed [...]

Given the other bird-related events that occurred last week, it only makes sense that the Chestermere Chicks would be The Anchor’s featured Relay For Life team. The team’s core group was originally formed around four years ago when several members met through their children’s school. They eventually formed a dinner club, and team captain Shelley Drinkwalter said the group has slowly evolved and become involved with other activities as well. The Chicks participated in the 2010 Chestermere Relay For Life. Some may remember their yellow-coloured boas, which made them resemble chickens. With that theme in mind, the team now uses [...]
