CHESTERMERE – Competing at the Alberta Summer games for 8 Chestermere girls was more than just playing soccer and trying to win each game. Sure, ultimately that is the goal but often there’s a windfall you didn’t see coming. It sounds like these kids won so much more than just a soccer game or two; they won the hearts of acquaintances of their teammates that will last a lifetime. Their team manager, Tanya Gaskell, wrote the article below and it speaks well of their awesome experience and an award that may mean more to them than a medal. Tanya wrote: [...]

CHESTERMERE – Normally when you get a bunch of teenage girls and boys together, they’re frequently like motor mouths and you’d be looking for the OFF switch sooner rather than later. Not the case when I met this group of teens for a soccer practice at the Chestermere High School. They were mostly quiet, but a well-mannered group of kids who had one thing on their mind and that was their awesome trip to L.A. (Lethbridge Alberta). Although Lethbridge is often referred to LA it does not resemble the well-known Tinsel town in California. But the L.A.- 2 hours south [...]

CHESTERMERE – Indoor soccer is clearly becoming one of the more popular sports in the community, as the Chestermere United FC indoor program is currently boasting 250 players. There are now 21 teams in total for the program, with the age ranging from U6 to U18. Technical director Dave Clarke said that the numbers haven’t necessarily increased from last year, but instead that they far exceed the numbers of their outdoor program. “It’s a big increase from outdoor where we had approximately 130 players and only 10 teams,” he said. “There is an increase for indoor programs because then you [...]

CHESTERMERE – The U16 boys team showed the coaches how it was done during their matchup this past Saturday, rushing past their out-of-breath mentors to take home the glory. However, the loss didn’t exactly speak ill for the coaches, who led many teams to victory this season. This includes the U16 team, who finished their season by winning gold in their tier in the provincial championships. Chestermere United FC technical director Dave Clarke said that the game was a great way to end the season as it gave them a good reason to bring everyone together and honor their gold [...]

CHESTERMERE – Soccer enthusiasts of Chestermere don’t necessarily have to take a break from the sport this winter, as the steadily growing Chestermere United FC indoor soccer program runs from October through to March. Registration from the indoor soccer program opened on Aug 15, and is available to players from U6 to U18. New this year is also a co-ed mens and ladies team, and if there is enough interest, adult male and female teams could be organized in the future as well. Dave Clarke, technical director for the Chestermere Regional Soccer Association, said that they usually see about 800 [...]
