Round Up It was a relatively quiet week in league play for all four of St. Gabriel’s high school volleyball teams. The only game saw the senior varsity girls beat St. Tim’s 3-1 to remain in second place in the league; four points back of Bishop McNally. The JV girls currently find themselves in fifth place in their league, but are only four points out of first. They both resume action this week against Queen E. Meanwhile both boys’ teams also had the week off of league play. The SV boys have struggled this year and will likely find themselves [...]

Cross Country The high school cross country season is officially over at St. Gabriel the Archangel, and once again there is much to be proud of. For the second straight season, the Guardians had representation at the provincial level. Jordan Maisonneuve, who recorded top 10 finishes all season long, qualified for the provincial championships, held in Red Deer. Against the best 129 runners the province had to offer, Maisonneuve finished 17th; besting his 30th place finish at last year’s provincials. A great accomplishment to end a great season. Congratulations to all the coaches and runners, and we already look forward [...]

Girls Soccer: Unfinished Business How do you top perfection? Last year, the St. Gabriel Varsity Girls soccer team, coached by Roni Walz, announced their arrival on the sporting scene in a big way. In their first year, the girls went undefeated through the regular season, with a perfect record of 6-0. Unfortunately, they didn’t quite receive their fairytale ending. They were upset in the semi-finals of the playoffs, leaving a bitter taste to linger over an otherwise successful season. This year they attempt to learn from the past and finish what they started. While several key members have moved on, [...]

On Thursday, May 31st 2012, St. Gabriel the Archangel School welcomed students, staff, alumni, and honoured members from the community and district to celebrate 10 years of Catholic education in Chestermere. Father John Nemanic, our Parish Priest, opened the evening of festive celebration with a prayer of thanksgiving for all the blessings that have allowed us to grow as a community of faith over the past decade. Father John compared Heaven to a party where family and friends join together, reminisce and laugh over the years of trials, tribulations, challenges and successes shared. True to Father John’s message, the celebration [...]
