The regular meeting of Chestermere’s town council on Monday, August 15 showed no appointments. Actions/Decisions Council discussed the provision of Garbage Collection Service to acreage areas in Chestermere. It was discussed that only half of the residents in the areas responded to the survey about garbage pickup, and only 30 per cent were in favor of having it. It was discussed by council that imposing a fee on those who don’t see a need for garbage collection services wouldn’t be fair, and that it staff should check with the current service provider about the possibility of individual pickups at the [...]

Dear Editor: Please vote ‘NO’ to dredging the lake. Yet again, we will be paying for ‘the lake’. We are already paying extra in property tax to live in this lake community. The non lakefront owner has very little square footage of access to the lakefront per capita. Perhaps it is square inches! There is not enough public area for people, or for parking to accommodate Chestermere’s population, and we share this space with all visitors. We are paying property taxes equally with our lakefront owners, or perhaps unequally considering my lake friend paid $4300.00 on a million dollar property, [...]

To residents of Chestermere AND Town Council There is much talk and speculation flying around out growing Town regarding the dredging of the lake. In fact, since I moved here 6 years ago, it’s been an on again, off again discussion with varying opinions based on where you live, how you use the lake, or how much you actually know about the problem. And that is the point of this letter…there is not enough information being provided (or made easily accessible) for people to make informed choices, or at least, to develop an informed opinion. And further, too many people [...]

CHESTERMERE– After months of being left bare, three flagpoles on top of the Rainbow Falls waterfall will not be repaired and will be cut down instead. Shreds of the original flags were taken down after suffering weather damage. The Town had looked into replacing the flags, however, it was recently determined the ropes were cut and the repair would have to be contracted out because of the special mechanism used to string the rope. An email sent from Town of Chestermere assistant director of public works Donna McCallum to resident Kal Macdonald on July 7 confirms the flagpoles will be [...]

In response to the Mayors Monthly published letter regarding the Towns interest in the project of Dredging Chestermere Lake to control weeds etc, I have a few questions I would like answered in order to make an informed decision on which way I should vote. Questions are as follows, 1) I understand that Chestermere Lake is owned or governed by the Western Irrigation District, They or the Alberta Government should be concerned by the environmental issues if any exist. So why are Chestermere Tax payers being asked to contribute or pay in full to this project, as for a central [...]

CHESTERMERE– Resident Chris Lepine had just pulled his sea-doo into the boat launch on June 27 when he was asked how he felt about the amount of seaweed in the lake. “There are definitely a lot of weeds,” he replied, “but I wouldn’t say it’s been a big problem for me.” Lepine added he was more concerned with his machine, which wasn’t running very well at the moment. He proceeded to load the boat up onto a trailer to get a better look. Then, in a moment of cruel irony, Lepine bent underneath the boat to find a large pile [...]

With colleagues and many residents of Chestermere backing her, Davies said she is looking forward to the experience because it is an interesting time to be living here. “It’s an exciting time for the area; We have a new riding, so it will be very interesting representing residents from the complete riding,” she said.
