Mayor’s Message – February 2013

February sees us in preparation mode around Town. We are finalizing lift station upgrades with our developers and CUI. We’re lining up with our contractors to get Rainbow Road south completed as soon as the spring thaw is done and we’re waiting for restaurants like Harvey’s, Dairy Queen, the new Lakeside golf course restaurant (The Pointe) and the Landing to open their doors.
We’re continuing our negotiations with Alta Link to open an off-leash dog park off of Rainbow Road so that our furry friends have a safe environment to get some exercise. Just as a reminder, the current off-leash area along the North end of the Lake is open to all residents to use, not just dog owners, so you need to have voice control of your pup even if they aren’t on a leash.
Finally in February we’ve been preparing for the Facilities and Amenities Open House to take place at the end of April. The location is set at the Rec. Centre and details of the date and time will be posted on the Town’s website shortly. The purpose of this Open House is to have you specify exactly what you’d like to see in a facility that will serve a population of 22,000 people. All of the teams, associations, and partners, including the CRCA which runs the current facility, have been asked to participate and provide you with their details. I encourage you to come out and give your input, have your questions answered and help us, with our partners, plan the future of recreation in Chestermere.
Have a question for Council about what’s going on in the Town? There are several ways to get that question answered including e-mail, a phone call, Mocha Monday with Mayor Matthews, Council Corner or you are always free to come to a Council meeting to ask it during question period. Unique to Chestermere, this section appears on every agenda and time is given at every meeting to answer residents’ questions. Hope to see you soon.
