Mayor’s Message April

Remember the phrase, “April showers bring May flowers”? Well it’s the middle of April and I’ve only seen snow so maybe April flurries bring opportunity!
This month we’re bringing you the opportunity to provide further input on our Major Recreation Facilities plan for a population of 22,000 people. On April 22, from 1 pm to 9 pm, a great group of volunteers and staff from the Town of Chestermere will show case potential options for recreation in a large facility as well as additional outdoor space. You may have seen posters up in various places around Town and banners along the roadside advertising this event. It’s really important that we hear from you on what you and your family would use in a large facility. This open house is meant to be a come-and-go as you please event and there won’t be formal presentations. So drop by when you have a few minutes, it’s a kid-friendly environment, and let us know what you’re thinking for recreation for the future. If you need further details you can find them at www.chestermere.ca.
There are also some opportunities for new dining in Chestermere. If you haven’t been to the Rainbow Falls area lately you’re missing out on some new offers like the new pizza place, Canadian Pizza, or Amato Gelato, ummm gelato! Dairy Queen has now opened its doors in Town Centre, a new Vietnamese restaurant is set to open soon and Harvey’s expected to open by the end of the month. If you haven’t been into Lakeside Golf Course’s clubhouse recently you’re missing the opportunity to eat at their new restaurant, the Point, with fresh food ideas and a great atmosphere. New places are opening quickly so if you haven’t looked around lately you might be missing out.
Opportunities abound this month as well to contribute to some great causes in Town. If you haven’t got your tickets yet to the Knights of Columbus’ Surf and Turf dinner you need to hurry! You can purchase these at M&M Meat Shops or by contacting anyone involved with the Knights. This great event is raising money this year for equipment for the Health Centre in Chestermere. A very worthy cause and a great meal! Speaking of meals, the North Taphouse is hosting the Library fundraiser, Beer for Books. Tickets to this event on April 23rd get you and your guests a great meal, an awesome beverage and the chance to win great prizes in a trivia contest. Please drop by the Library or find your nearest Library Board member to get your tickets- there’s a limited number so hurry.
Chestermere is full of opportunities for all aspects of life and new ones are falling into our hands like snowflakes! I hope we see each other as we’re out enjoying them.
