We don’t have a revenue problem

Happy New Year, and here’s hoping this finds you happy, healthy, and holding steadfast to whatever resolutions you set for yourself this year. One of my commitments to you after being elected was to keep you informed of what I am up to and working on on your behalf.
So, with that in mind, it’s been a busy start to the New Year.
After a Christmas break with my family, it’s been back to business in January. We held an Open House at our Chestermere office last Saturday. Thanks to all who dropped by to say hello and chat. We had a super turnout with people bringing all kinds of issues to my attention. The dominating theme Provincially had to be talk of our Provinces financial state.
It seems many people are perplexed, and justifiably so, with the current government’s budgeting, or lack thereof.
As you may be aware, this government campaigned on a promise to be more fiscally responsible and get our Province back in the black financially. Well guess what? Rumour has it we are now looking at a 6 billion dollar deficit, and counting! It’s incomprehensible to me that in a Province blessed with the resource dollars of Alberta, a government can’t be more accountable for its spending. WE DON’T HAVE A REVENUE PROBLEM IN ALBERTA, WE HAVE A SPENDING PROBLEM! I have heard that loud and clear here in our constituency, and from Albertans across the province. Please know that as your MLA, and a proud member of the Official Opposition Wildrose party, we will continue to hold government to account for its decisions.
I also have a busy month lined up on the education front. As the education critic for the official opposition, I believe it’s important to hear from parents and teachers to get an idea of what’s working in education, and how we might work to enhance the current system. I was pleased to meet with the Rainbow Creek and Chestermere high school parent councils for some good insight. I have also scheduled a week long tour this month where I’ll be visiting several schools in the region and meeting with countless educators and agencies. I will be sure to provide more details in a future column right here in The Anchor.
If you didn’t make it by the Open House and would like to speak with me, please know that you can always reach me by contacting our office.
Take care, and good luck with those resolutions!
