What has made the Chestermere Country Fair have a rural flair has been the constant loyalty of the Strathmore Fun Country Riding Club in scheduling their annual gymkhana to coincide with the Chestermere Fair. Since 1989 they have been part of the festivities, and a BIG part. You can‘t celebrate western heritage without horses, and the competition and action provided by the Fun Country Riding Club adds great excitement and colour to the fair. To quote Bea Winter, Club Secretary who has been involved with the Fair since day one, “Our Club was invited to host the gymkhana events at the very first Chestermere Fair so that there would be outside entertainment for fair attendees that was easy to relate to. The events are timed, so it is simple to follow who wins and why. The gymkhana has always been great entertainment – speed, excitement, and easy to follow.” According to Bea, there have been only two cancellations, both due to weather, when it snowed in September in the early years, and then a few years ago, when it poured for days on end and the arena was just too wet to use for safety reasons. Things have also improved out in the gymkhana area with new footing, increasing the size of the arena, and the bleachers which have been done and installed in the past years under the guidance of Debbie Myslicki, CRCA Manager. All of this has given the Fun Country Riding Club an even better home in which to hold their yearly event. The schedule of events for Saturday September 13th as well as the entry form is available in the Country Fair Red Ribbon booklet ( copies at the Chestermere Library, Town Hall, or Chestermere Rec Centre office) or online at https://www.facebook.com/#!/ChestermereCountryFair
