During the month of December, The Chestermere Anchor hosted a Christmas Coloring Contest where children ages 5-14 were invited to take the blank picture in the paper and make it their own with creativity and color.
Dozens of gorgeous pictures were submitted, but in the end, there could only be one winner. Seven year old Joaquin Gutierrez of Chestermere was the winner and earned the prize of a $25 gift certificate that was generously donated by The General Store.
“I’ve never won anything like this before”, said the 2nd grader as he excitedly accepted the gift certificate when presented to him. It was just a few days before Christmas when I took young Joaquin his prize, and as I handed it to him to open, what happened next was truly an act of the Christmas spirit. The young boy told me that he’d like to donate the gift certificate to Christmas With Dignity – what a special little boy.
When I asked him what his favourite part of Christmas was, he answered, “celebrating the birth of Jesus, opening gifts and spending time with my family”.
