Conrich ASP appeal hearing wraps up

The City and Rocky View County presented their closing statements in the Municipal Government Board Hearing Appeal of the Conrich Area Structure Plan (ASP) Sept. 23.
“Chestermere’s team did so in a professional, detailed manner that laid out all of the strong concerns we have about the negative impacts the Conrich plan will have on our community and it’s residents,” said Mayor Patricia Matthews in an e-mailed statement.
The hearing, also referred to as a 690 appeal after the section in the Municipal Government Act that deals with intermunicipal disputes, focused on the Conrich ASP and the potential detrimental effects it could have on the City of Chestermere.
Although both the city and the county presented their closing arguments, they also requested to submit final written statements to the board.
The panel agreed to the request. The written submissions will be filed and exchanged in October and early November.
A written decision by the Municipal Government Board will be delivered within 30 days after the hearing is declared formally closed by the case manager.
Common practice of the board is to issue a letter once the hearing is closed and follow that with the decision in writing.
“Now we can only wait to hear back from the Municipal Government Board panel on their decision,” said Matthews.
If either the county or the city is dissatisfied with the decision, it can be appealed, on a point of law only, at the Court of Queen’s Bench.
