2019 budget

On March 19th, 2019, the Liberal government introduced their last budget before the next election. As expected, the government broke their 2015 election promise to balance the budget this year.

The Prime Minister said in 2015 that his pledge to balance the budget by this year was “set in stone.” We now know that was not true. This year’s deficit alone will be 19.8 billion – that increases every Canadian citizen’s share of federal debt to over 19,000 dollars. The total spending committed to in the budget reaches $41 billion. This is yet more proof that the Liberals simply do not care about our nation’s fiscal health. They are addicted to spending your tax dollars at every turn.

We can reach no other conclusion than that Justin Trudeau is trying to distract from the SNC Lavalin scandal by ramping up spending dramatically – and this will be the most expensive cover-up in Canadian history. The scandal has thrown the Trudeau government into complete chaos. Every week, new revelations have come to light that suggest the Prime Minister is attempting to cover-up his attempted political interference in a criminal prosecution.

The Liberals shut down the Justice Committee’s investigation into the SNC Lavalin Affair, and the Prime Minister continues to refuse to fully waive solicitor-client privilege and cabinet confidence. We know that Jody Wilson-Raybould has more to say. We learned from media reports that former Minister Jane Philpott knows something about the scandal that she can’t share with the Canadian public. It’s time for the Prime Minister to give up his attempt at a cover-up and come clean.

Conservatives are using every tool at our disposal to hold the government to account for SNC Lavalin. We refuse to allow the Prime Minister to continue to cover-up his involvement in the Affair.
