Chestermere’s mayor and city council are inviting the community to join them on the green this summer for a good cause.
The City of Chestermere is set to host its second annual Mayor & Council Charity Golf Tournament on Thursday, June 26, at the Lakeside Golf Club. Proceeds from this year’s event will support the Gifts of Kindness Fund, a local program that provides emergency financial aid to residents facing hardship.
“This tournament is about more than just golf,” said Mayor Shannon Dean in a recent conversation. “It’s a chance for our community to come together, have fun, and directly support our neighbours during some of their most difficult moments. Whether it’s a family facing a sudden medical emergency or someone struggling to make rent, the Gifts of Kindness Fund steps in when it matters most.”
The City of Chestermere launched the fund to offer one-time support for residents experiencing crisis situations. The fund has helped local families with unexpected expenses such as utility bills, groceries, transportation, and temporary shelter costs. Administered with compassion and confidentiality, it fills a vital gap where traditional social supports may fall short.
The tournament will feature an afternoon of friendly competition, with a shotgun start at 1:30 p.m. at the scenic Lakeside Golf Club. Participants can expect 18 holes of play, community camaraderie, and special activities throughout the course. The day wraps up with a cocktail hour at 6:30 p.m., followed by dinner at 7:00 p.m., giving players and guests the opportunity to network and reflect on the impact their participation is making.
Sponsorship opportunities and registration details will be made available soon through the city’s official website and social media channels. Local businesses and residents are encouraged to register early, as last year’s tournament saw strong community turnout.
Mayor Dean emphasized the tournament’s broader goal of fostering a connected and caring community. “At the end of the day, this is about Chestermere looking after Chestermere. We know people want to help, and this tournament gives them a fun, meaningful way to do just that.”
The 2025 tournament builds on the success of last year’s inaugural event, which raised significant funds for local initiatives and brought together elected officials, service clubs, local businesses, and passionate residents.
