Shali Baziuk was acclaimed as our Schoolboard trustee

Shali Baziuk has been acclaimed to serve as trustee for Ward 1 of Rocky View Schools for the 2025-2029 term after no challengers filed nomination papers.
The official results, posted by the division on October 27, list Trustee Baziuk as Ward 1’s representative for the upcoming four-year board governance period.
This marks Baziuk’s continuation in the trustee role she began in 2017, and a return for what will be her third term.
She holds a bachelor’s degree in political science/law, a public relations diploma and a Six Sigma green belt; prior to trusteeship she spent more than 20 years in regional operations management and corporate training.
In her profile, Baziuk emphasises her longtime residency in Chestermere with her family, involvement in school councils (including serving as chair for Rainbow Creek Elementary School) and active participation in community and volunteer service such as the Chestermere Food Bank.
Her re-acclamation comes at a time when the board faces a number of pressing issues: managing growing student populations in rapidly developing communities, securing school-site readiness and modernising infrastructure to meet evolving education demands. In a recent interview, Baziuk listed school construction and classroom support among her priorities for this term.
Trusted by her peers, she also holds a leadership role beyond the local board: Baziuk serves as vice-president of the Alberta School Boards Association (ASBA), reflecting her broader engagement in governance and advocacy at the provincial level.
As trustee for Ward 1, which includes Chestermere and adjacent areas, Baziuk represents a growing number of families dealing with school-site capacity, funding pressures and an expanding range of programming needs. The board’s website notes the RVS jurisdiction serves approximately 25,000 students across its boundaries.
With no election contest in Ward 1, the acclamation spares the costs and logistics of a vote. Community members now are encouraged to engage with Baziuk and the board through upcoming public meetings, which will include the board’s organisational meeting where a chair, vice-chair and committee assignments will be confirmed.
For residents, the continuity in representation ensures that prior goals — improving school-site readiness, strengthening school-community relationships and ensuring fiscal responsibility — will carry forward without disruption. Baziuk’s track record of community involvement and her prior two terms provide a foundation for advancing these priorities.
In a brief statement, Baziuk said: “I am honoured to continue representing Ward 1 and look forward to working with families, schools and our board to ensure that our children’s educational needs are met now and into the future.”
Community members interested in connecting with Trustee Baziuk or attending RVS board meetings can find contact details and schedule information on the Rocky View Schools website
