Indoor soccer registrations soar past outdoor season numbers

Chestermere United Programs going strong heading into new season

CHESTERMERE – Indoor soccer is clearly becoming one of the more popular sports in the community, as the Chestermere United FC indoor program is currently boasting 250 players.

There are now 21 teams in total for the program, with the age ranging from U6 to U18.

Technical director Dave Clarke said that the numbers haven’t necessarily increased from last year, but instead that they far exceed the numbers of their outdoor program.

“It’s a big increase from outdoor where we had approximately 130 players and only 10 teams,” he said. “There is an increase for indoor programs because then you can be play indoors throughout the winter.

“We’ve also had some players return from playing in Calgary due to the great coaching we have.”

Clarke said that running the technical program is proving to be a great journey because he gets to see all the kids improve with every game and practice.

“They’re all having a great time, too,” Clarke said. “Plus the partnership between myself and the coaches is continuing to grow and the resulting increase in the players’ abilities is very rewarding.”

Clarke said that their main focus for the indoor season is to continue to grow the numbers in the club by providing a quality, fun program, which will hopefully lead them in to recruiting and retaining players for the outdoor season next year.

“It’s great to see that soccer in Chestermere is still very popular and with the great coaches we have and a standard programme and practice approach, hopefully we will continue to see the numbers increase,” he said.

Although the season has officially kicked off, players can register at any time.

“We don’t close off our registration,” Clarke said. “However, if new players do want to come and play they must contact the club first, as we turn off our online registeration so that we don’t miss anyone.”

Clarke said that he and the club wish all their teams the best of luck this season.

“I’m positive they will all have a fantastic indoor season,” he said.
