JV GIRLS’ BASKETBALL
It was a magical week for the Chestermere Junior Varsity Lady Lakers basketball squad. On Wednesday they traveled to Airdre to take on the George McDougall Mustangs in a league matchup. It was another solid team effort as the girls continue to work hard and playe tough defense, on their way to the 85-45 victory. On Friday it was off to Okotoks for the Foothills Composite High School tournament. They took on the Beiseker varsity team in the first game on Friday night. Led by the strong play of Makayla Boisjoli and Kendall Armstrong, the Lady Lakers defeated the always-tough Bandits by a score of 75-38. Saturday morning meant an early wakeup call and a game with the Crescent Heights Cowboys from Calgary. Every player on the team had a very strong effort offensively and defensively en route to a convincing 96-45 win. In the final showdown of the weekend, the Lady Lakers, led by the shooting of Madison Stoye and the strong play of Laura Costello, claimed their third tournament championship of the early season with a 67-45 victory. The girls play their last game before the Christmas holidays with a home league matchup against the Springbank Phoenix on Wednesday night at 6:00.

VARSITY GIRLS’ BASKETBALL
The young Lady Lakers team is not winning a lot of games but are working hard and continue to improve each week out. In a league matchup last Wednesday the girls had a good outing with first place George Mc Dougall. The team got down early but came back to within 11 in the fourth quarter, before losing 67-49. On the weekend the girls participated in the very competitive Bert Church tournament. Drawing a tough Hunting Hills squad the first day the team held a 5 point lead at one time, but turnovers were the difference, losing 62-45. In the second game turnovers and poor shooting made the game difficult for the Lady Lakers, but the team played tough and earned a 46-42 victory. Congratulations to Richelle Rawlyk on her player of the game award. The girls played hard and rebounded well to earn their second victory of the year. In the consolation championship the team was up against the host squad. A strong second quarter gave the Lady Lakers a 22-18 half-time lead over the Chargers. The girls did many good things but the difference in the game was the free throw shooting. The team missed 26 free throws. Again the team played hard and shows improvement almost every game. It was nice to have Rachel Cooke back after sitting out the last 6 weeks with a broken ankle. This weekend was the first time all season that all 10 girls were healthy enough to play. This week the team will host Springbank in an important league game Wednesday at 6:00.
