A number of our athletes were honoured with awards. Earning Heart Awards were: Kendra Anderson, Mitch Marjoram, Kendall Armstrong, and Drake Bruney. All-star awards were presented to: Kayla Georgsen, Natalie Russell, Ali Abdulghani, Jag Gill, Bryce Dunaway, Jordan Brown , Rachel Cooke, Yuvi Hnudal, and Riley Lenci. Congratulations to all heart award recipients and the league all-stars.

ROCKY VIEW LEAGUE MAJOR AWARD WINNERS
With the great year our teams had, this season, it is no surprise that we had a number of major award winners. From the JV Boys team Jeff Rodehutskors was named MVP. Aimee Wilson and Yas Saghir were names co-MVP’s of the Varsity Girls’ League, while Charn Gill was named Rookie of the Year for the Varsity Boys league . Congratulations on your awards. We are proud of these major achievements.

YASMENE SAGHIR
Yasmene has had quite the past two weeks. After leading the Lady Lakers to a 3-1 record and the Consolation Championship, at provincials, she played in both the zone and provincial all-star games. At the Shooting Stars Showcase Awards Banquet, Yas was named the 3A Player of the Year, for Alberta. The following Monday she was awarded the CO-MVP for the Rocky View League. As well, last Friday, Yasmene was featured on CTV as the Athlete of the Week. Congratulations on your achievements and best of luck as you take the next step and play for the Mount Royal University Cougars next season.

AIMEE WILSON
Aimee also had a spectacular past two weeks. Despite being injured, Aimee’s leadership was a key to the success of the Lady Lakers at 3A Provincials. She qualified for the zone and provincial all-star game, but was not able to participate, as an active player, due to a calf injury. At the Showcase Awards Banquet, Aimee was named Miss Alberta Basketball, emblematic of being considered the top female player in the province. At the league banquet Aimee was also named CO-MVP for the Rocky View League. She was previously featured on CTV as the Athlete of the Week. Quite a year for Aimee, despite being injured for much of the last half of the season. Aimee will suit up next year for the University of Calgary Dinos.

SOUTH CENTRAL ZONE ALL-STAR GAME
Five members of our varsity basketball teams took part in the zone all-star game at Highwood High School in High River on Wednesday, March 20. From the Lady Lakers Katelyn Dickin and Yas Saghir took part, while Aimee Wilson participated as an injured player. On the boys side Riley Lenci and Drake Bruney played in the event.
