Chestermere’s Water Festival Provides Ultimate Day at the Lake

Chestermere – Saturday, July 27, visitors and residents in the Town of Chestermere will have the opportunity to experience the best parts of a summer day at the lake during the Town’s annual Water Festival.

“Chestermere’s Water Festival takes one of those perfect days you can spend at the lake and ramps it up” said Nancie Huneault, the Town’s Events Coordinator. “There will be opportunities to enjoy the lake, play games, try out snacks on the shore, listen to great live music, watch fantastic fireworks, and much more!”

Huneault explained that the most popular events at the Water Festival will be back again this year and include Hyperactive Watersports’ Wakeboard Competition, the Car Nutz Club Annual Classic Car Show, YELL’s Rubber Duck Race, the artisan market, beer gardens, and free lake tours.

“For families with children we will also have the EPCOR Kids Zone in John Peake Park,” Huneault explained. “It’s a great place for kids and parents to enjoy the day together in a safe and fun environment. One of the best parts is watching the kids’ faces light up as they play the games, have their faces painted or interact with Captain Jack, our children’s entertainer.”

Adults will also have the chance to get involved and cool off during the Redneck Regatta or the new Water Festival Wipeout. The Wipeout will have participants run, bounce or splash their way through a floating obstacle course on Chestermere Lake made of trampolines, slides, paddle boards, and more. The Wipeout will begin at 2pm with a corporate challenge followed by anyone over 18 who wants to give the course a whirl. Those interested in competing can sign up on the day at the Hyperactive Wakeboard Competition tent near the lake.

For those who would rather stay on dry land, another new addition to the Festival is Salsa at the Lake. “Those who are inspired by the La Rumba Cuban Dance School’s performance in the afternoon will have the chance to learn how to salsa at the evening lessons,” said Huneault. “At 7, everyone is welcome to show off their new moves at the Salsa Social which will raise funds for Alberta flood relief efforts.”

The day will finish with a splash as the Summer Music Showcase, which will feature local talent all afternoon, wraps up with headliner Drew Gregory on the pavilion stage at 9:00 p.m. Following Gregory’s performance, the finale of the day will be fireworks on the water.

Huneault concluded by explaining that no matter what you enjoy most about a day at the lake, Chestermere’s Water Festival will not disappoint you. “Bring your family for a memorable day; there is no better way to enjoy Chestermere Lake than at the Water Festival!”
