Chestermere To Host World’s Longest Hockey Game

Coordinators are pleased to announce that Chestermere will once again host the record-breaking game

Chestermere has quite a bit to look forward to in the coming months, which will include the efforts of an entire team to execute the World’s Longest Hockey Game. The game will run from May 4th to the 14th and will be viewable at the Chestermere Recreation Centre.

The game will consist of 248 hours of non-stop hockey, and the team will feature 19 of the returning players who contributed to the last record setting game in 2012. “[This] continual hockey is tough mentally,” says Event and Media Coordinator Lesley Plumley, “having people–strangers–cheer them on is a huge moral boost.”

That being said, make sure to mark the dates on your calendar and take some time to cheer the team on. Whether you drop in for a few minutes, or a few hours–the team will be very grateful for your support in their efforts.

In 2012, the team played hockey for a continuous 246 hours not only setting a Guinness World Record, but also raised 1.5 million dollars for the Alberta Children’s Hospital Foundation.

More sponsors have hopped on board to make the event a huge success and have the same goal in mind: They want to be part of this amazing event to help children. The team will also have the support of Dr. Greg Uchachz, Dave Roberts, Travis Shawcross, and Krista Forsyth who will make sure that every player is well looked after.

”On top of this we have merchandise for sale,” says Plumley, “and we have added a Benefit Concert for May 9th, 2014 which will feature the 2013 CCMA Female Artist of The Year, Kira Isabella.”

In terms of what the projected fundraising goal is for this year’s game, Plumley and her team believes that every dollar will help a child or family in need, “We would like to reach two million but if we raise one million we will be happy.”

On May 4th, Chestermere’s Mayor Patricia Matthews, MLA Bruce McAllister, and President and CEO of the Alberta Children’s Hospital Saifa Koonar will drop the puck.
