A new grocery store is coming to Chestermere, setting up shop in Rainbow Falls.
The Development Permit application was approved at a town council meeting on February 18th for the grocery store known for having lower food prices. No Frills is a part of the Loblaw Companies Limited and currently operates stores on both Strathmore and Calgary.
The permit allows for a 30,000 sq. ft. retail store as well as a liquor store and gas bar that will be located at 100 Rainbow Road, directly south of Our Lady of Wisdom School.
“While Safeway has always been a good community supporter, the No Frills should be a great addition to Chestermere as well”, says Mayor Patricia Matthews. “It will provide competition that helps to keep dollars in our local economy and tax dollars that will offset residential taxes.
According to a representative at Loblaw, No Frills stores are a proven discount model that offer a price value proposition to its customers through its Won’t Be Beat promise with a focus on low prices, fresh produce and a commitment to the community.
“Since these stores are locally owned and operated we expect the business owner will become involved in the community too”, adds Mayor Matthews.
Construction is anticipated to commence by fall 2014 with expectations that the store will be open to the public by the end of 2014.
