Chestermere Teen Making a Mark in the Curling World

For 14 year old Cole Lewis, the sport of curling has quickly become a passion. Although the eighth grader at Chestermere Lake Middle School has only been a curler for three years, he is already on his way to becoming a force to be reckoned with.
On the weekend of December 12th – 14th, Cole and his team mates participated in the Southern Alberta Bantam Juvenile Bonspiel which was held at the Cochrane Curling Club. The team, which consists of three members from Calgary and himself, won this bonspiel.
Cole currently has the role on the team as second, but did some skipping when he was curling in Chestermere. He started his curling here in Chestermere with young boys and girls who meet on Sunday afternoons at the Chestermere curling club. Cole says his mentor is Canadian Gold Medalist Curler, John Morris – who is well known in the Chestermere community.
Marla Forth of the Chestermere Curling Association had this to say, “I am so very proud of Cole and his accomplishments. He has all the qualities of a great athlete, he has the desire, discipline and commitment to succeed in the sport of curling! He also has the emotional maturity that is needed to work well with others in this type of team sport. We certainly share a deep love of the sport of Curling. My program in Chestermere is more of a feeder program since it only runs from January to March. I knew Cole had the desire and drive to advance so I recommended to him that he join the Calgary Youth Curling Association (CYCA). He was able to join a team of likeminded youth and he was able to enhance his development that I may have instilled to help his team experience victory!”
