Zombies At the Crossroads

Zombie Survivor and the Calgary Corn Maze and Fun Farm are partnering to create the Zombie Fun Farm strategy game Oct. 15.
“[It’s] a little bit of fright and a lot of fun,” said Mark Muchka from the Calgary Corn Maze and Fun Farm.
In addition to the strategy game in the maze, all of the regular attractions will be open as well, just with a zombie twist.
“We will have some activities going on…that will be visually really exciting,” said Zombie Survivor Event Director Elizabeth Lewis, “I think people will have that instant rush of excitement as they enter into the farm.”
For people unfamiliar with the traditional Zombie Survivor, it is a 5km race in Cochrane where runners compete to put up the best time while avoiding the zombies on the course.
Lewis said that the fun farm will require more strategy.
“It’ll be more fun less run,” she said.
Exactly how the strategy game works won’t be revealed until just before competitors enter the maze.
Lewis is encouraging people to bring their GoPro’s to record their experience.
There will be a full moon lighting the way the night of the event.
The moonlight in combination with the rustle of the wind through the corn, can make the maze scary even without the zombies said Lewis.
“When the wind rustled through it, it was actually quite creepy and terrifying,” said Lewis.
If the event is a success Muchka said that they would be interested in doing hosting it again.
“We’d like to make it an annual event for sure,” he said.
The Zombie Fun Farm runs from 6-9 p.m. Oct. 15 at the Calgary Corn Maze and Fun Farm, located in Rocky View County at 84022 Township Road 224.
Zombie survivor competitors will enter the corn maze in waves at 7:40, 8 and 8:20 p.m.
The Zombie fun farm is intended to be a scary a no-contact event
“We want people to be freaked out but by no means do that have to worry about anything grabbing them,”
Organizers are recommending it for ages 12 and up if accompanied by and adult or 16 and up if unaccompanied.
Tickets are $20 and can be purchased online at http://cornmaze.zombiesurvivor.ca.
