Back in 2010, when they couldn’t find the perfect home in Chestermere, Moe Abdullah and Fatima Nasser decided to build their own.

That decision led them to start building custom homes, founding Urban Indigo Fine Homes. Eight-years-later, one of their 2018 built homes has made the finals of BILD Alberta Awards.

“It’s actually a great honour,” said Nasser.

“This is essentially the Oscars of the building industry,” she said.

Nasser said that they focus on building larger custom single-family homes in the Calgary region, although they have built mostly in Chestermere.

“We typically build about four to five custom homes a year,” she said.

Since their first home, Nasser said they have done about 70 per cent of their builds in Chestermere.

“In Chestermere we’ve built about 20…homes now just in Chestermere for lovely families,” said Nasser.

In being nominated for the build award, they are going up against some of the giants of the home building industry.

“We’re up against large, large builders like Albi, Abby Homes, Brookfield Residential, Stepper Homes, Broadview Homes, all the big large builders take pride in being able to win or be a finalist in any one of these categories,” said Nasser.

They will find out if they’ve won at the awards gala at the Jasper Park Lodge on Sept. 14.

With the nomination, comes motivation to continue to work harder and do better with each build.

“It helps us seek to do better, be better and perform better,” said Nasser.

She said that it is also special for a house they built in Chestermere to be receiving the nomination.

“It’s in the community where we started, it’s the community where we live and it’s the community where we work,” said Nasser.

“As a builder we can live amongst our clients,” she said, “They’re our clients and our friends so that’s what’s been the most rewarding thing.”
