Head on collision leads to highway closure

RCMP investigating after 64-year-old male dies in the crash

One person has died and a second was treated for minor injuries after a head on collision on Highway 817 south of Strathmore Aug. 2.

Strathmore RCMP along with emergency services were called to the scene just before noon.

Police stated in a press release that the preliminary investigation shows that a truck travelling north on Highway 817 collided with a southbound truck that was pulling a trailer.

The 64-year-old male driver and lone occupant of the south bound vehicle was declared deceased at the scene. Paramedics treated the only occupant of the north bound vehicle for injuries at the scene.

The highway was closed for several hours with traffic diverted to either Township road 240 or Glenmore Trail while an RCMP Collision Analyst investigated the scene.
