This past weekend the CLS Badgers completed the 2018/2019 fall season with 2 first place GOLD placings and 3 second place SILVER placings.  The past weekend had great drama, storylines and was a great finish to a great season in the CMBA league (www.cmba.ab.ca)

Our U13 Bantam Girls team had a hard fought, back and forth battle pulling the game out in the final seconds for a 4-point win and GOLD!  Both teams worked extremely hard and never gave up, it was a great game to watch.

Our U13 Bantam Boys 1 team played in the Gold game because they upset the number 1 team in their div the week before, the momentum from that win carried them to a win in the finals and a GOLD placing.  What a storybook run they had in the playoffs.

Our U15 Midget Girls team played in the GOLD game thanks to a 1-point win in the semi’s.  The girls were balancing School basketball this weekend as well and although they were all able to make the game it was their 5th game in the last 2 days and the girls just ran out of gas in the end and settled for a second place SILVER placing.  They never quit and worked as hard as they could under the extreme fatigue.

Our U15 Midget Boys were primed and ready for the GOLD game but like the U15 girls they were balancing School Ball games as well, unlike the U15 girls the scheduled game conflicted with the School game and the boys were only able to get 6 players for this game, that obviously played a role in the game and unfortunately our boys took the loss for a second place SILVER placing.  We feel if our entire team was there, we would have had a better say in how that game ended.

Our U11 Mini Boys suffered a very tough loss in the semifinals, heartbreaking really, but they were ready to shake that off and go after that BRONZE, unfortunately the boys came up short again.  This playoff will not define how good of season this group had.

Results were not in for our U13 Bantam Boys 2 team at the time of this article, but we are sure, knowing how hard this team worked all year they had a successful end to their season.

Lastly our U11 mini girls played for the GOLD in what can only be described as a “straight out of the movies” type game.  With the clock striking 0 one of our girls was fouled allowing her 2 foul shots where if one went in it would win the game.  She barely missed the first shot but the second shot hit the rim, rolled in and then bounced out.  I was told by those who saw it that they couldn’t believe it came out.  The girls then went into OT and ultimately lost this heartbreaking game.   I know for a fact this will make our player better in the long run and although she is devastated this will fuel her and the team to continue to work and be the best they can as they continue to grow with CLS.  Great coaching support helped the sting of this loss and with losses like this it makes the wins that much sweeter when they come.  In the end, that’s the way the ball bounces sometimes.
