Seniors update: Spring into Summer

Health

As we emerge out of Pandemic times, we truly welcome and look forward to connecting in person again. Please listen to your intuition as you begin to make your bubble larger and move at your own pace. Also please bring all the wisedom, positive insights, and healthy changes you have acquired from this pandemic time into this new future with you, making our community a better place to live.

Phase 2 of the Summer roll out is well underway. This means we will still distance, mask and hand wash, along with following the phase 2 plan of reopenings. Hopefully many of you have booked or received your second vaccine.

Your vaccine can be booked; online through the AHS booking website, or by speaking with a nurse at 811 or by calling your local pharmacist and booking an appointment. If you have questions or concerns about your second vaccine, ie. Mixing with Pfizer or Moderna, please call 811 or discuss with your Family Physician.

Seniors Transportation to Vaccination Sites – Do you need help to get to your 2nd vaccine?

While funds are available, Chestermere FCSS can provide assistance with transportation costs and offer seniors 50+ a free one-way or round-trip taxi ride, to their vaccination. *Must meet the criteria for transportation assistance eligibility to apply. If any local seniors are interested, please click the link to download the referral form. chestermere.ca/seniorstransportation   We require at least 72 hours notice prior to your appointment and for any cancellations. If you have any questions or concerns, please contact Sharron Matthewman, Seniors & Community Development Facilitator at 403-207- 7050 or email smatthewman@chestermere.ca

CRPCN has been initiating a Physician Recruitment Committee for Chestermere and has received the support of the Mayor and Council to begin attracting new Family Physicians to our community. Did you know: For a community of our size, with more than 25% of residents 50 years and older, we are aiming to have 23 physicians in Chestermere to support your Health Needs and provide a Medical Home! Currently we have 8 Physicians and 1 Nurse Practitioner.

Seniors Week

Thank you to each and every one of you who attended senior’s week. We had an amazing time and hope that you enjoyed it as much as we did. Here’s to 2022! P.S you can check out all of the events if you did not get time to attend on https://chestermere.ca/seniorsweek

What a fabulous Seniors Week last week. Many thanks to our Seniors Week Committee and to Sharron Matthewman, our Community Services Seniors Facilitator for all your efforts in a packed agenda of fun, informative connection for all our seniors. So much planning and work went into this week and to set it up virtually with one log in access was fantastic. Bravo to you all.

Chestermere Coalition for Seniors

Seniors Coalition will be meeting this week on Wednesday June 16th in John Peake Park at 1:30pm. We are so excited to be together outside finally. Everyone is welcome. Bring a lawn chair and come to meet your neighbor and connect as well as lend your voice to the seniors of Chestermere. Please contact leslie.racz@crpcn.ca if you have enquiries. We have Senior’s Resource Handbooks available at the meeting and in the library, please pick yours up or take one for a neighbor.

Seniors Advisory Committee

Many thanks to the Seniors Advisory Committee for all their dedication in seeing through the strategies brought forth from the Seniors Taskforce to Council in 2020. This is a committee of Council serving two years ahead. Thank you for your time and commitment volunteering for the seniors of Chestermere.

Armchair Travel

Armchair Travel is one of the most wonderful ways to look into our fantastic, vast world and learn as much as our hearts desire. We can travel to some of our favorite places without leaving home.  Through videos, pod casts, books and music and numerous other ways, we can go to places we have never seen, or only ever dreamed of. This way of travelling, is a delightful pastime and is good for the imagination and soul. After all, we are curious individuals and have a thirst for knowledge!
