Seniors Update – Welcome to Summer and the emergence from COVID Restrictions

Health

As we settle into Phase 3 of COVID Restrictions, we remain aware of the variants and their ability to get ahead of vaccines. Please continue to wash your hands, keep your masks handy for crowded indoor spaces, and enter Phase 3 at your comfort level. For those that remain Vaccine hesitant: please review Vaccine hesitancy on the AHS website if you have reluctance to vaccinate and as well, speak with your Family Physician for more specific answers.

Access to your Vaccination Records for travel is available through signing up for your own medical records. This can be done through myhealth.alberta.ca. Here you can access all kinds of your own lab results, diagnostic reports as well as vaccination records.

Chestermere Coalition for Seniors

It was wonderful to meet with Senior’s Coalition in person outside at John Peake Park last week. We had a great discussion around what us seniors want to be named. Older adult? Elder? Senior? What do you identify yourself with? The recent conference on Aging in Canada refers to the older adult. Their conclusion on the future of Aging was around Technology: access to and skills as well as intergenerational sharing of skills and wisdom.

We have Senior’s Resource Handbooks available at the meeting and in the library, please pick yours up or take one for a neighbor.

Hope to see more of you at the next Seniors Coalition meeting at John Peake Park in July 21st at 1:30pm, bring a lawn chair and a beverage of your choice! Please contact Leslie.racz@crpcn.ca for updates or enquiries.

Armchair Travel

Armchair Travel is one of the most wonderful ways to look into our fantastic, vast world and learn as much as our hearts desire. We can travel to some of our favorite places without leaving home.  Through videos, pod casts, books and music and numerous other ways, we can go to places we have never seen, or only ever dreamed of. This way of travelling, is a delightful pastime and is good for the imagination and soul. After all, we are curious individuals and have a thirst for knowledge!

Ready? Let’s take a look at Biodiversity, meaning YOU and all living things on our planet, earth. We are all part of an ecosystem, from humans, plants, fungi animals and bacteria’s, we each have a part to play working together to interact, support life and maintain balance.  Biodiversity supports everything in nature that we need to survive: food, clean water, medicine, and shelter. We are all connected!

The saying is so true “You are what you eat” for example Bees pollinate crops, organic fertilization increases yield, and heirloom varieties make our plants stronger and healthier. One Ontario farmer can feed 120 people each year, all thanks to biodiversity. (Source) https://www.ontarioparks.com/parksblog/why-is-biodiversity-important/

Ready? Let’s go.

To prepare for our trip, please follow the steps for a relaxing journey. Step 1 – Pour yourself a cup of tea or your favorite tipple, Step 2- kick off your shoes, Step 3 – pull up a comfy chair, ready? let’s go!
