City of Chestermere Takes Action Following Serious Collision at Key Intersection

A recent serious collision at the intersection of Range Road 284 and Chestermere Boulevard (also known as 17th Avenue) has prompted the City of Chestermere to launch an immediate review of intersection safety, with a focus on preventing future accidents and improving road conditions.
“We are deeply concerned for those affected by this incident. The safety of all road users is a top priority for us, and we are committed to addressing this situation with urgency, care, and transparency,” said a spokesperson from the City of Chestermere.
City’s Immediate Actions and Safety Measures
In response to the crash, City Administration is actively exploring short-term safety improvements for the intersection. These options may include additional traffic signals, signage, temporary traffic controls, or other traffic-calming measures, depending on feasibility and jurisdictional boundaries.
“We are committed to taking immediate steps to improve safety while we work on longer-term solutions,” said Mayor Shannon Dean. “We are looking into all available measures that could be implemented quickly to reduce the risk of future incidents.”
Collaboration with Calgary for Long-Term Solutions
Alongside these immediate actions, a comprehensive corridor study is already underway in collaboration with the City of Calgary. Given that the intersection connects two municipalities, Mayor Dean has reached out to Calgary Mayor Jyoti Gondek to emphasize the importance of joint efforts to address the issue. Both cities are focused on aligning their efforts for future upgrades, including road widening, paving, and permanent traffic signal installation.
“This collaborative approach will ensure that any infrastructure investments are both effective and well-coordinated, benefiting all residents of the region,” Mayor Dean added.
A Balanced Approach: Immediate Action and Future Planning
While permanent upgrades to the intersection will require time for planning, design, and funding, the City of Chestermere is dedicated to taking meaningful steps to reduce risks in the immediate future. Residents will be kept informed as the review progresses, and further updates will be provided regarding ongoing improvements.
The City of Chestermere remains focused on making the necessary changes to protect residents and ensure safer travel for all who use the city’s roads.
