Framing Local History

On April 10th the Chestermere Historical Foundation (CHF) held its first Annual General Meeting and was cheered to hear the news that the Great Canadian Barn Dance to be held in Chestermere April 21st has been a sell out. This is good news as this event is earning matching funds for CHF to use against the $3000 matching grant awarded from the Chestermere Conrich Regional Recreation Board.
As well, the new Directors and Members perused some of the recently framed photos of local historical interest; the Willis Spare Barn, corner 17 Ave SE and RR 148 (the poor old barn is nearly gone), the former Calgary Yacht Club building, a Weno Services calendar from 1939, kindly donated by Marian Boutin and photos of the 1952 Chestermere Cabin Owners Fire Truck presently being restored. Weno Services was the nearest local gas station in rural east Calgary from 1939 until the 1970s.
Stop by the library to see these new photos and check out a copy of Chestermere, A Home for All Seasons, and read more about our early Chestermere History. Books are also for sale from the Historical Foundation for $48. Go to www.chestermerehistory.org for more information and to see an update on and how to participate in the Fire Truck Restoration.
