Local Hero Needs Your Support

CHESTERMERE – The name Alex Halat should be well known in Chestermere. This because Alex organized and played a key role in THE WORLDS LONGEST HOCKEY GAME in what some may say as “putting Chestermere on the map”. He and his very enthusiastic hockey hero teammates from the oil patch raised approximately $1.7 MILLION during the 10.5 day game where the proceeds went to the Alberta Children’s Hospital Foundation. Over the past 22 years Alex and a host of others have raised funds for charities by organizing golf tournaments, concerts and of course hockey games in the hours after a hard days work. Their next project will focus on raising money for the Missing Children’s Society.
In 2012, UFA is again honouring those special people whose heroic efforts have made a real difference to their community. The UFA named Alex as one of the top ten finalist for its SMALL TOWN HEROS contest. The UFA’s top two Small Town Heroes will each win $10,000 plus a Paul Brandt concert and the eight runners-up will be awarded $2,500 each. Alex and many others are holding a public rally on TUESDAY AUGUST 21st, NOON at Chestermere’s John Peake Park Pavilion and would love to have you come out and give your support. In addition, you are encouraged to go on line at www.ufa.com/smalltownheroes and vote for Alex. On line voting is accepted and you can vote once/day until August 31. The real support for Alex will be at the public rally. The more support, the better chances of winning $10,000 for charities in and around Chestermere and a Concert with Paul Brandt right here in Chestermere.
