Chestermere Library opens November 27, 2007

The Library is well on its way to completion. After months of construction, this new community resource centre is finally looking like we’ve always hoped. The walls have been painted; the floors are carpeted and tiled. As I write this, the shelves are being assembled and books and other library materials will start to go onto the shelves next week. We have received furniture for our program room that will be used for stories, movies, meetings and community events.
About 20 per cent of our community have been members of ChPL and have used the Paperbacks by Mail (PBM) service of the library system or accessed the many databases that we subscribe to through our membership in the Marigold Library system. The PBM service will end soon and the staff at ChPL are looking forward to seeing you all in the new library beginning November 27th at 11A.M.
If you live in Chestermere or the MD of Rocky View (with the exception of Crossfield and Cochrane), you are eligible for a free resident TRAC/TAL card. Current memberships will be valid until year end then they will need to be renewed.
At this time, the cost of the family library card will be $25. If you live outside of the MD, you can still enjoy our library system for a family fee of $70. This gives you access to ALL of the libraries in Alberta!
The Chestermere Public Library is your doorway to entertainment, information and relaxation through books, music, programs, electronic resources and a space to read, chat with friends and meet your neighbours.
The library will be open Tuesday through Thursday from 11 AM to 8 PM, Friday and Saturday from 10 AM to 5 PM.
The excitement throughout the community has been wonderful and we thank all of you who have supported this initiative by becoming library members, donating your time, money and materials and talking about the importance of a library to the growth of this community.
The Library Board and staff appreciate your enthusiastic support and we look forward to responding to your library needs. If you’d like to volunteer at the library, please send me your name and contact information and we will contact you when we could use your help.
We are still gratefully receiving donations of “like new” materials to add to the Library. If you have any books or CDs you would like to donate, please drop them off at Town Hall until November 26th and after the 26th, at the library. Remember to come check us out! Hope to see you all soon.
