Chestermere and Area News in Brief

Last week, Public Works staff put stakes in the ice on Chestermere Lake. The stakes are there so that when the ice is thick enough, the staff can clear a skating route around the lake. The stakes will help guide them and keep them safe as they clean a path, so the town is asking that the stakes be left in place.
On Dec.17 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. the Chestermere Public Library will be transformed into Santa’s Grotto. There will be hot chocolate, treats, story time and Christmas crafts, and of course a visit from Santa. Everyone is welcome.
The annual Chestermere Community Christmas Party will return for another year on Saturday, Dec 10 at the recreation centre. Activities and entertainment will run from 1 to 4 p.m. in the main hall. There will be craft making at Santa’s workshop, story time with representatives from the Chestermere Public Libary, and hayrides from 1 to 2:30 p.m. outside. There will be free coffee, hot chocolate, treats and a visit from Santa.

The Chestermere Christmas Marketplace will also take place on Dec. 10 at the recreation centre in the MPP room. Over 40 booths will be set up to offer various items including holiday gift ideas. The marketplace will be open from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.
Volunteers are needed to help with decorating on Friday, Dec. 9 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., and from 1 to 4 p.m. on Saturday, Dec. 10 to help with supervising craft tables. Anyone who is able to lend a hand is asked to email recreation@chestermercrca.com or call 272-7170 ext 224.
